Rajasthan Assembly Elections Live
Rajasthan Assembly tenure ends by January 2019 and the EC had recently announced the date for elections as 7th December 2018. The EC recently announced the dates for nominations as 12th to 19th November and the date of the poll as 7th December. The counting will take place on 11th December along with the other states that have elections at the end of 2018.
Currently led by BJP, Rajasthan comprises a total of 200 assembly seats out of which BJP currently holds 161 seats, Congress holds 25 and BSP holds 2. A total of 101 seats are necessary to secure a win and establish a government. Congress was in talks with BSP to form an alliance which wasn't fruitful given the demands of BSP.
The opinion polls, however, suggest that Congress might win in this year's election even without the alliance. But given the political situation of the state, it seems that Congress might benefit from the alliance. While Mayawati has issued a statement that an alliance between Congress and BSP in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh is not possible, the position in Rajasthan remains doubtful.
The BJP, led by Vasundhara Raje who currently, is the incumbent CM of Rajasthan, has expressed its confidence in victory is preparing for a fair battle. However, the result is in the hands of the people of Rajasthan which will be known to the world after December 11th.
