Kerala Journalist Siddique Kappan Leaves UP Jail After 28 Months: NDTV India News Live
There was widespread outrage over the death of a young lady who had suffered alleged rape over two years ago and a journalist from Kerala named Siddique Kappan was imprisoned in Uttar Pradesh for investigating the alleged rape of the girl - and in the process was jailed for more than two years. His prison term had been extended for over a month since he had been granted bail in both cases which had been brought against him.
My fight against draconian laws will continue. After being released from the Lucknow jail for two years, he was kept in jail, even after I was granted bail. I haven't been able to figure out who was benefiting from my imprisonment. While the two years in jail were extremely challenging, he never feared anything." He told NDTV after he was released.
